Perpetual Adoration begins !
Sunday April 14 after the 11:30 Mass, St. Elizabeth Seton Parish opened the doors of its new adoration chapel. Over 500 parishioners have signed up to support this "round the clock" adoration of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Each will spend an hour of silent prayer in the peaceful presence of Christ, truly present in the Eucharist.

The Pope John Paul II

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel Opens 4/14

Against a backdrop of sunny blue skies, fluttering multicolored banners, sweet music,  and shining faces, St. Elizabeth Seton Parish dedicated the new adoration chapel on Sunday, April 14, 2002.

In a traditional Eucharistic procession, led by children strewing gold and white rose petals before the Blessed Sacrament, Pastor Father Ernie Norbeck carried Jesus, truly present in the Eucharist to the new chapel space in the Parish Center across the parking lot.  Father walked in procession covered by an ornate canopy, or umbrillino, carried by adoration committee members.  He wore a cope and humeral veil to hold the monstrance that contained the Blessed Sacrament.  Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, some in full regalia, walked before Father Ernie in their role as protectors of the Eucharist.  Also in the parade were neophytes (newly baptized adults) from RCIA, in their white baptismal gowns.  Many members of the choirs of St. Elizabeth Seton were participants and sang songs of praise and adoration throughout the procession and during the dedication and blessing.  The procession began with three altar servers, Father James Radek and Deacon Tom Ross, six additional altar servers, then the Knights of Columbus.  The servers carried the processional crucifix, incense, holy water and candles.

Inside the chapel, Father Ernie set the monstrance on the table, surrendered the humeral veil, incensed the new tabernacle, blessed it with holy water, blessed the walls and corners of the chapel, and said a few words of blessing.  Father knelt and incensed the Eucharist.  The group knelt to sing the ancient Eucharistic hymn, Tantum Ergo.  Father received the humeral veil again, lifted the Eucharist, still in the monstrance, and offered Benediction.  He carried it outside to give Benediction to the group gathered on the lawn.  He returned to the chapel and reposed the Eucharist in the new tabernacle so that it is visible through the port hole and locked the tabernacle door. The group then prayed the Divine Praises and sang another song of praise, Holy God We Praise Thy Name.  Father named the chapel the Pope John Paul II Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish and declared it to be officially opened.

Attending the procession and opening of the chapel were representatives of both secular and diocesan newspapers.  Visit our  parish website for more information and photos of the history making day. www.sesnaperville.org

There are over 500 members of the parish committed to spending time before the Blessed Sacrament in prayer during all hours of every week.  All are welcome to come and “make a visit” to the Lord and spend time in quiet prayer at any time.  During the nighttime hours, the door will be locked but entry will be by a code given to the regular adorers.

PERPETUAL EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

WHAT DO I DO WHEN I GET THERE?

Whether it's your first time or your 100th, know that Our Lord waits in joyful anticipation of your visit with Him in the Most Blessed Sacrament! Relax in His Presence and let the Holy Spirit gently lead you.

Here are a few guidelines to help you:

  • Please sign in at the table each time you visit, whether a regular adorer, substitute, occasional visitor or guest.  We also encourage you to anonymously add your petitions to our book so all may pray for your needs. You may also wish to add any favors granted to you by our Lord to our Testimonials book.
  • Feel free at this time to chose a prayer book, Bible or pamphlet to take into the chapel with you, if you wish.  Please return them to the table as you leave. You may also want to bring a favorite prayer book or your rosary from home.
  • Enter the chapel and genuflect (or deeply bow if you are unable to kneel) as you approach Jesus, truly present, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, in the Blessed Sacrament.
  • Sit or kneel, and gaze upon our Lord exposed in the window of our tabernacle. Pray to Him with your heart, or with the materials you have brought to aid you. Perhaps you might wish to journal your thoughts, or even write a love letter to Jesus--what a powerful experience this can be!
  • Or just simply be with Him, listening for what ever He wants to say to you. Closing your eyes,  listening to the incredible gifts of your own  breath and heart beating in thanks can be a won- derful way to center yourself in personal prayer.

  • Please remember to pray for the needs of your family, parishioners and fellow adorers, especially for Our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, and for Bishop Imesch, Father Ernie and Father Jim, whose support and prayers have helped to make Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration a reality here at St. Elizabeth Seton.
