Adult Enrichment is an ongoing process of growth whereby individuals desire to intensify their relationships with God, family, church, and community. It is hoped that through the various programs organized by this committee, God's revelation and self communication to individuals can be received and responded to in the light of the Gospel message by worship, witness, and service to others.
This Bible Study is an ongoing study of Sacred Scripture, both Old and New Testaments. A study guide is used that asks the participant to prepare for each session with a particular focus on the impact of these scripture passages on our lives today. Faith sharing in a group environment is an essential part of this study.
The goal of faith formation is discipleship. Disciples are people who follow the Lord with converted hearts, united in community with other believers, sharing the sacraments, and serving others by bringing the Good News. Family Faith Formation seeks to provide programs that nurture people's minds and hearts in the wisdom of the Catholic faith. In addition, the task is to provide individuals and families with the resources and tools they need to extend and expand their learning of the Catholic faith to all aspects of their lives and home.
The St. Elizabeth Seton Preschool program is designed to provide for the development of the TOTAL child - the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and spiritual aspects. The environment is both open and supportive to sustain each child's capacity to learn with both wonder and delight. see more details in our own Preschool Page
Parish Religious Education Program:
Elementary Ministry
(Pre-school to 5th Grade)
Elementary Ministry presents to the children of the parish the beliefs and practices of the Catholic tradition. Preschool (age 4) meets on Sunday mornings in the Lower Level while 10:00 A.M. Mass is being celebrated. Sacramental preparation for Reconciliation and Eucharist are provided in 2nd Grade. It is the norm that a child needs to be in the Religious Education program for one year before he/she is able to receive the sacraments so they are able to understand the importance of the sacraments. Classes are held primarily in the homes; there are classes in the building offered on two days for families with three or more children or single parent households. The grade levels gather at church for a large group experience throughout the year.
Adolescent Ministry
(6th to 8th Grade)
Adolescent Ministry provides education and Christian formation for parish teens. Meetings are held in the homes of small group facilitators and in the building for families with three or more children. Retreats, Large Group activities and social activities are held through the year. See our Junior High web page with all the latest details at www.imcatholic678.org
High School Youth Ministry: The largest component is our Confirmation Preparation. It is a walk with our freshman and sophomore high school teenagers toward the sacrament of Confirmation. They meet in small groups in the homes of adult facilitators twice a month. Throughout the year they will gather for special formation meetings as a community and will attend a retreat during each year. At the completion of the two years preparation, they will be confirmed by the bishop, which usually takes place in the Spring.
See our High School page at www.sesnaperville.org/youth/
Throughout the year, there are also many service opportunities and social events. They participate in service as a ministry and are invited to develop their leadership skills which will be used in the parish and community.
LIFE TEEN: Its central component, the Mass, gathers all teens of the parish and welcomes them, giving them the opportunity to experience and celebrate the Eucharist in a way geared to their age groups. The Life Teen Mass is scheduled for 6 P.M. on Sunday evening and afterwards once a month we gather together for Life Night to go deeper into the gospel messages, Catholic teaching and build community with the teens.
This is another opportunity for the teens to develop a deeper and personal relationship with Jesus.
Currently there are approximately 300 parishioners who volunteer to share their faith with the children and youth of our parish. Catechists/facilitators are asked to attend grade level meetings throughout the year as a form of support and idea sharing. The Directors of Religious Education (DRE) and the Master Catechists/Grade level coordinators communicate with all catechists/facilitators through the Catechists folders in the cabinet outside the RE office.
The Religious Ed program is always in need of volunteers. If you have questions or are interested in volunteering for a number of different jobs, please call the Religious Education office at (630) 416-1992.
:
The Master Catechists/Grade Coordinators at St. Elizabeth Seton share a visible expertise with all the Catechists in his/her grade level (Preschool through 5th grade). They are responsible for attending monthly meetings with the Director of Religious Education (DRE) and for: working with the Catechists on their grade level curriculum, familiarizing themselves with resource materials, and serve as contact people between the DRE and the Catechists. With a large Religious Education program of 1463 students, the Master Catechists/ Grade Coordinators are a very valuable and integral part of our total Religious Education Program.
Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are invited to participate in our teen Peer Ministry program. This is a youth leadership program. We encourage confirmed students to continue to grow in their faith by signing up for Peer Ministry.
Peer Ministry will allow our teens the opportunity to explore "real life" issues of faith and living. This is a more in-depth experience of community building, faith sharing, soul searching and support. It is a place to go to refresh oneself, challenge oneself, be with supportive people and just a place to get away from it all. The group helps to plan parish youth events and plays an important role in our teen retreats. They attend workshops and participate in service projects.
