Our New Organ - January 2008

Our new organ has been a wonderful addition to our music ministry. As I previously mentioned, this instrument was a generous gift to our parish from the Egermann family. On May 16, we will have a formal dedication of the organ. Bishop Joseph Imesch, retired ordinary of our diocese, will be with us to bless it and the members of the music ministry.

Our organ is considered the flagship of the Rodgers line of classical three manual instruments. It has 75 speaking stops and 159 total stops. A large number of additional sounds can be produced by it through Midi (musical instrument digital interface). It offers a total of 1,291 voices and a digital Zimbelstern (bell-star). you may have noticed that there are speakers at both sides of the front of the Worship Space, as well as in the rear of it.

For the past year, the organ was used at Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago. The pipe organ in this chapel is under repair. The digital Rodgers instrument was used in its place. The company did numerous updates on the instrument before we received it. Because of this arrangement, we were able to obtain it with a substantial cost reduction. St. Michael Parish in Wheaton and Holy Spirit Catholic Community in Naperville, have this same instrument.

MUSIC MINISTRY - September 2007

Today, in our readings and our hymns, we are reminded of the invitation and the call…. “All are welcome”. Our music ministry offers various opportunities for many members of the St. Elizabeth community. Please join us as we begin our new choir and instrumental season:

High School Students -
In addition to the Life Teen Choir which ministers on Sunday evenings, we also invite students in grades 8, 9, 10, 11 & 12 to join the High School Choir as a choir member or instrumentalist, which will minister at the other Sunday morning liturgies. Children’s Choir for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders,
will also begin in October and will sing for special seasonal liturgies. Please watch for further announcements for our younger music ministers, or contact Allen or Patti Stock.

Instrumentalists of the parish (high school graduates and older)…
who play Violin, Cello, String Bass, Flute, Oboe, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Guitar and Harp, please contact our Music Directors, Allen and Patti Stock, about the various opportunities for instrumentalists to play at liturgies.

Sharing your gifts of voice and instrument will be a welcomed and appreciated gift to the SES community.

A note from
St. Elizabeth Music Ministry….  July 2007

During our liturgical celebrations of the Body and Blood of Christ a few weeks ago, Fr. Tom reminded us that, as an assembly, we are called to a ‘full, active and conscious participation’ in our worship. We do so through our spoken response, our postures, our gestures, in silence and in song. Throughout the liturgy, various ministers may lead us in prayer, but as an assembled community, it is our responsibility to respond to the invitation to pray. The role of Music Ministers, either as instrumentalists, choir, or cantor, is to lead the community in sung prayer and enhance the spirit of sung prayer as part of the community, not as a separate entity. Music Ministers join with the assembly in creating the spirit of prayerful celebration.

Our choirs and ensembles will begin rehearsals in September. Please give prayerful consideration to join as a music minister. Contact Allen or Patti Stock at 416-2194 or at sesmusic@comcast.net  to sign-up or for further information.

A Note from St. Elizabeth Seton Music Ministry -- June 2007

Thank you to everyone in the parish community for the tremendous welcome we have received in our first weeks here at St. Elizabeth Seton! We have enjoyed meeting the many new faces after weekend liturgies and look forward to that continuing in the weeks ahead.

We also wish to extend, once again, an invitation to all parishioners to participate in the Music Ministry. Please consider sharing your musical gifts with our community as a choir member or instrumentalist, in the Adult Choir, High School Choir, Youth Choir, Instrumental Ensemble...no auditions are required to participate.

These musical groups will begin rehearsals in September. If you wish to sign-up or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us by phone (630) 416-2194 (office), (630) 701-2976 (home), or email at sesmusic@comcast.net

We are looking forward to working with many of you in the music ministry!
