Knights' Korner
June 14-15, 2008
Principles
of the Order: The four principles of the Order are
Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. As Knights we are
committed to charity, easing the plight of those less fortunate. In
unity, there is strength. Through the Knights of Columbus, men are
able to band together as brothers to help each other in times of
distress, sickness and death. One of the reasons the Order was
founded was to emphasize that Catholics are proud citizens of their
countries. Today, Fourth Degree Knights in full regalia serve to
witness to the values of devotion to God and country, the bedrock of
patriotism. Pictured here, Brother Knights John Davis and Don Lesher
congratulate each other on achieving 3rd Degree Knighthood on June
1st. (For more info, read “These Men They Call Knights.”)

CORPUS CHRISTI EUCHARISTIC PROCESSION: After the 11:30 Mass on Sunday, May 25, the SES community went into the great outdoors with the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance proclaiming to the world our love of Jesus in the Eucharist and your Knights provided an Honor Guard for this moving profession of faith. Fr. Tom presided over the procession around our campus and ending with Benediction on the Easter fire area outside the steps. Reflections from Margaret Gilmore included, “I find it very touching to see the Forth Degree Knights in protecting and guarding the Blessed Sacrament!”

WE ARE MEN OF FAITH: Guided not only by our belief in God and the Catholic Church, but by our belief in each other and in ourselves. Firmly founded upon the principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism, the Knights are able to accomplish a wide range of worthwhile goals thanks to the strength and mutual support of members and their families. The 154 Knights of St Elizabeth Seton raised over $9,500 last year for those in need. We volunteered our time to the tune of 4,817 hours!May 17-18, 2008
CONFIRMATION
AT SES! On
May 10-11, 2008
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! May is the month when the Church honors the
Blessed Virgin Mary with special love and devotion. The Knights, too, honor Mary
as well as our Moms and the mothers of our children! We ask the SES community to
donate items to the Cradle of Love (in the lower narthex) for those moms at the
crisis pregnancy centers who have made the choice of life. We ask all to join us
Monday nights to pray the rosary. It’s a simple prayer, humble so much like
Mary. It’s a prayer we can all say together. Hope to see you Monday night.May 4, 2008
Dear Brothers: The Fraternal Year is drawing to a close. As a
group, we have accomplished much. We are currently in the process of
accepting nominations for Council Officers for the next Fraternal
Year. I would like you to prayerfully consider being an officer.
Each of us has something to share with our brothers; please bring
your special talent or unique gift to our council. I request your
presence on Monday, June 2, at 7:30PM to participate in the election
of Council Officers for the 2009 Fraternal Year. I would appreciate
your time that Monday evening for a couple reasons: First, to
confirm the nominations and vote for the new slate of officers, and
secondly, consider participating in one of the committees. It has
been an extreme pleasure for me personally, to act as your
servant/leader in this Council.

During Pope Benedict’s April 16 meeting with President Bush at the White House, 30 Fourth Degree Knights in full regalia provided an honor guard for the ceremony. It was the first time the Fourth Degree stood in formation for a pope and president at the White House. At Nationals Stadium on April 17, an honor guard of 50 Sir Knights led the liturgical procession at the beginning and the end of Mass. At Yankee Stadium on April 20, as many as 165 Fourth Degree members accompanied priests and deacons as they distributed Communion to the thousands attending. Later that day, a contingent of 50 Sir Knights served as honor guard as the Holy Father departed from JFK Airport.
