Religious Education Program:

Elementary Ministry
(Pre-school to 5th Grade)

Elementary Ministry provides for the religious formation of the parish youngsters. Pre-school (age four) meets on Sunday mornings in the Lower Level. Sacramental preparation is provided for First Holy Communion and Reconciliation (Confession).

Classes are facilitated by catechists, generally, in their homes.  We offer two classes for each grade in the building for families with 3 or more children in the program, single parent household and special circumstances.

Each grade level has a large group event held at the church throughout the year.

Catechists/Facilitators

Currently over 285 parishioners volunteer themselves to share their faith by facilitating our Parish Religious Education Program for the youth of our parish. There were 1578 elementary students enrolled during the school year 2005-2006. Though new catechists and small group facilitators are invited to join us during the course of the school year, most attend training workshops in the beginning of the school year. These catechists are asked to attend grade level meetings throughout the year as a form of support and idea sharing.

The Directors of Religious Education (DRE) and the Master Catechists/Grade Coordinators communicate with all catechists and small group facilitators through the Catechists folders (in the Lower Level of the Worship Center).

The parish, our Religious Education program, and the need for adult volunteers continues to grow. If you have questions or are interested in volunteering in some capacity, please call the Religious Education Office at (630) 416-1992.

Master Catechists/Grade Coordinators:

The Master Catechists/Grade Coordinators at St. Elizabeth Seton share a visible expertise with all the Catechists in his/her grade level. Preschool through High School. They are responsible for attending monthly meetings with the Director of Religious Education (DRE) and for: working with the Catechists on their grade level curriculum, familiarizing themselves with resource materials, and serve as contact people between the DRE and the Catechists. They also assist in the ongoing process of recruiting new Catechists and help facilitate meetings and end-of-year evaluations with the Catechists. With a large Religious Education program of over 1850 students, the Master Catechists/Grade Coordinators are a very valuable and integral part of our total Religious Education Program.
