Mark your calendars with the dates you are scheduled to greet. The schedule
runs for about 3 months at a time. Holy Days and special occasions are
handled on a volunteer basis.
If you cannot greet at Mass as scheduled, you should get a substitute.
If you cannot find a substitute let your teammates or myself know (Darren
Inkman, 961-5482).
There are 5 Greeters scheduled at all the Masses.
Arrive 20 minutes before Mass starts, sign in, get your name tag, and check
if there is a second collection.
There is a wheelchair and an emergency kit in the Hospitality Room if anyone
needs special assistance for some reason. Also, the upstairs restroom (near
the Hospitality Room) is unlocked during weekend liturgy for those who
cannot go downstairs easily.
Before Mass
Three Greeters are needed to hand out song sheets. Stand at the narthex
end of the hallway into church.
Two Greeters are needed to assist with seating. Be available in the church
proper.
Someone should get 3 or 4 volunteers to bring the Gifts up at the Offertory.
This can be a family, couples, or individuals. Remind them when to come
to the back of the church for the Offertory.
As you attend Mass on your non-scheduled weekends, please check with the
Greeters at Mass to see if they need any assistance.
At the start of Mass, try to keep the people entering church from interfering
with the start of the procession.
The water is turned off in the baptismal font once the priest has reached
the altar and leads the assembly in the sign of the cross.
Once everyone is in Church and Mass has begun, close the glass doors.
During Mass
To avoid disruptions, don't seat people during the Readings or Homily.
If there is a baptism at Mass, the font is turned on when the procession
to the font begins and turned off as the collection is gathered.
Be at your aisle ready to go for the collection and to guide communion.
Everyone should walk down their aisles at the same time. For collection,
start down the aisle when the General Intercessions are complete. For communion,
start down the aisle when the Eucharistic Ministers go up onto the altar.
For collection and communion, 2 Greeters are needed at the center aisle,
2 at the right side aisle and 1 at the left side aisle. If there is a 2nd
collection it should be done immediately following the regular collection.
The first person done should prepare the gifts and have the family proceed
with the gifts. The remainder of the collection can be placed in the Ministry
Suite.
Collection baskets are passed as follows for consistency, see the attached
diagram for reference:
Center and Middle Aisles - 1 basket to the front row and 1 basket
to each side of the short aisles.
Side Aisles - Using 2 baskets alternate every other row.
At communion, try to pace the people so that they don't have to stand in
the row.
After Mass
The glass doors should be opened once Communion has completed and the font
is turned on after the final blessing.
Two Greeters are needed to collect the song sheets. Be with the baskets
at the church end of the hallway.
Three Greeters are needed to hand out bulletins, be towards the narthex
end of the hallway.
Prepare things for the next Mass by sorting the song sheets so they are
all heading the same direction and pick up any papers left behind in the
seats. After the 11:30am Mass put song sheets and bulletins back in the
boxes for recycling, and put baskets in cabinets.
Leave your name tag at church so that it is available if you need to help
on an off weekend.
