Feast of Corpus Christi
The Most Holy Body & Blood
                                                                             June 22, 2003

I am happy to support the Eucharistic Adoration Conference/Workshop at Elizabeth Seton Parish. To me, the most wonderful and most important sentence in all the sixteen documents of the Second Vatican Council is this: "The Eucharist is the source and the apex of the whole work of preaching the Gospel."

The Catechism of  the Catholic Church encourages it. Pope John Paul II encourages it. Pope Paul VI, as an immediate follow-up of the Second Vatican Council wrote a magnificent letter entitled Mysterium Fidei. I have been told by bishops, by a rector of a seminary and by several pastors of parishes of the marvelous transformations that have taken place that could be traced directly back to the Institution of Eucharistic Adoration. And ever since my Ordination as a priest, the topic I most enjoy speaking about and giving instructions on has always been the Eucharist.

May God bless you for encouraging devotion to the Real Presence of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the most Blessed Sacrament!

With cordial personal regards, and with a plea and a promise of continued mutual prayers always, I remain

Sincerely yours in the Sacred Heart,

                                                                         Most Reverend Roger L Kaffer
                                                       Auxiliary Bishop of Joliet (Retired)
