Eucharist

In the Sacrament of the Eucharist, Catholics have the primary, absolute sign of Christ’s presence in their midst; the sharing of bread and wine as Jesus’ own body and blood. Receiving the Eucharist for the first time represents the fullness of Christian initiation by closely uniting the person with the mystery of Jesus. After that first reception, frequently celebrating the Eucharist becomes a way for Catholics to deepen their lifelong initiation into Christ’s life, death and resurrection.

Preparation for the reception of First Eucharist has as its base a simple understanding of the place of Jesus in Christian life. This includes an understanding that the Eucharist is not just ordinary bread and wine, but the body and blood of Christ, the real presence of Jesus Christ, with the potential to transform both the individual and the community.

Our Family Faith Formation program is designed to form children in the Catholic faith within their family. The foundation of our formation is our celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, for all faith flows from the Living presence of God. Our family program begins when children start kindergarten. Children will receive the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist after participating in Family Faith Formation for at least two years, usually in second grade.



Older children will be prepared to receive the Eucharist after participating in Family Faith Formation for at least two years.
